The Day I Met You

Acrylic on canvas, framed

47cm x 57cm

2025

I painted this tree after a walk on Shipley Glen, where I came across a lone birch tree growing straight out of the rock. It stopped me in my tracks. It was quiet, striking and full of presence.

I rarely know why I paint something the way I do. Often, it feels like my subconscious is doing the choosing. However, when I looked at this finished piece, the title came to me immediately.

Meeting that tree marked a shift in how I saw, how I painted and perhaps how I even understood myself. Something quietly changed that day.
